Working Together To Help Promote Environmental Sustainability
Our Commitment to Environmental Sustainability
Environmental issues like toxins, waste, pollution, and climate change are growing global concerns. More than ever, organizations are stepping up with sustainable practices – and AMS Store and Shred, LLC is proud to be one of them.
We’ve built environmentally responsible processes into our core operations, ensuring that all confidential materials are securely destroyed and recycled.
Shredded paper is sent to paper mills, film is refined, and waste is repurposed – contributing to a wide range of recycled products and helping preserve our planet’s natural resources.
Our philosophy is SIMPLE – Secure destruction, sustainable recycling.
Paper Shredding & Recycling Program
Our paper shredding recycling program highlights the reuse of shredded paper. All confidential information is shredded using our Allegheny Shredder and then baled for secure transportation to the paper mill. From that point upon reaching the paper mill, the shredded material is pulped and turned into new paper products. Every piece of paper that can be reused is material that will not require logging or storage in a landfill.
According to the EPA, recycling 1 ton of paper saves:
17
TREES
7,000 GALLONS
OF WATER
3 CUBIC YARDS
OF LANDFILL SPACE
4,100 Kwh
OF ELECTRICITY
Choosing Recycled Products Helps Protect Our Planet
By choosing products made from recycled paper, consumers play an active role in promoting sustainability and reducing environmental impact. Recycled paper isn’t just used for notebooks and packaging – it can be repurposed into thousands of everyday items. Some surprising examples include:
- Masking tape
- Bandages
- Dust masks
- Hospital gowns
- Coffee filters
- Lamp shades
- Car insulation
- Seedling planting pots
- Egg cartons
Film Recycling Program
Our film recycling program highlights the reuse of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) and Silver. X-ray film is comprised of 99% PET and less than 1% Silver. AMS shreds the film to protect sensitive data; the shredded film is then processed to remove the Silver from the PET, both materials are then responsibly recycled.
Industries that benefit from the recycling of PET include:
Automotive
Construction
Food & Beverage
Textile
Recycling PET not only reduces waste – it gives new life to materials that support industries and everyday use.
Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)
Versatile. Recyclable. Sustainable.
PET is a highly versatile plastic known for its strength, clarity, and 100% recyclability. Its unique properties make it an ideal material for repurposing into a wide range of durable products. Common items made from recycled PET include:
- Bottles and containers
- Construction materials
- Fiberfill for jackets and bedding
- Industrial strapping
- Rope and cordage
- Safety and protective equipment
Silver Recovery Rebate Program
Through our X-Ray Film Silver Recovery Program, your facility receives a silver rebate based on the recoverable silver content of your film. You also gain peace of mind knowing your PHI is handled with the highest level of security and compliance in the industry.
Our x-ray film recycling program helps keep your facility compliant with all of the HIPAA/HITECH Act rules and regulations along with the Red Flag rules for identity theft.
The Value of Recycled Silver
The 2025 U.S. Geological Survey has proposed that silver be designated as a critical and strategic mineral, recognizing its importance in the emerging development of clean energy, technology, defense, & infrastructure. The process used to extract the silver allows it to be safely recycled, helping protect the environment and ensuring compliance with EPA regulations. Products commonly made from recycled Silver include:
- Solar Cells
- Medical Operating Tools
- Medical Implants
- Dentistry
- Defense/Aerospace Equipment
- Key hardware components essential for AI advancements
Sustainable Business Practices
Simple Ways to Improve Your Company’s Sustainability
Limit Waste:
Reuse envelopes, encourage personal mugs, refill printer cartridges, and choose recycled office supplies.
Minimize Physical Materials:
Store records digitally. Promote your business online and email marketing materials instead of printing.
Turn it Off:
Switch off lights, computers, and equipment when not in use to save energy and reduce bills.
Recycle:
Recycle anything that can’t be reused. Place bins in high-traffic areas to encourage use.
Stay Green:
Create a sustainable supply policy. Request recycled paper, and upgrade to energy-efficient equipment when possible.
Evaluate Meeting Costs:
Use phone calls or emails instead of in-person meetings. Choose virtual meetings over business travel to cut costs and emissions.
Outsource:
Use cloud computing to cut server demands and lower power consumption.
Why It Matters:
When you improve your sustainability efforts, not only will you save money - your business will also attract customers who value working with environmentally responsible companies.
