Our Story: From Film Recycling to Full-Service Information Security
AMS Store and Shred, LLC began in 1978, specializing in X-ray film recycling and silver recovery – a niche service that demanded precision, compliance, and environmental responsibility. Over the decades, we expanded our capabilities to meet the growing demand for secure document destruction, records storage, and digital scanning. Today, as a NAID AAA Certified facility, we continue to lead with the same integrity and commitment to security that defined our early days in the medical and imaging industries.

- 1978 AMS (Ag Medical Systems, Inc.) is founded, specializing in X-ray film recycling and silver recovery for the medical imaging industry.
- 1985 AMS expands its sales force and strengthens brand presence by building lasting customer relationships.
- 1990 AMS becomes an authorized subcontractor for DuPont Imaging, reinforcing its position in the film recovery industry.
- 1993 AMS acquires a silver recovery company and develops systems to meet stricter EPA environmental regulations
- 1995 AMS becomes an authorized subcontractor for Eastman Kodak, supporting sustainable film recycling by reusing PET film base.
- 1996 AMS updates policies for HIPAA compliance and begins employing workers through the Special Education District of McHenry (SEDOM).
- 1998 AMS expands services nationwide, doubling its workforce to meet growing demand.
- 2002 AMS introduces secure document destruction services as part of its evolving information security offerings.
- 2008 AMS moves into a remodeled, high-security headquarters with key card access, backup power, and an enhanced disaster recovery system.
- 2009 HITECH Act enforces stricter HIPAA compliance. AMS is already prepared with policies for proper destruction of Protected Health Information (PHI).
- 2010 AMS implements barcode inventory software and expands services to include hard drive destruction, media destruction, and records storage.
- 2011 AMS implements barcode inventory control for its record storage division, increasing efficiency and accountability.
- 2012 AMS earns NAID AAA Certification, expands to 50,000 sq. ft adds scanning, and partners to enhance silver recovery.
- 2013 AMS launches AMS Store & Shred, LLC earns PRISM Privacy+ Certification, and adds NDT radiograph digitization to improve storage services.
- 2014 AMS launches a program to digitize entire NDT radiographic libraries, advancing clients’ digital transformation.
