Not Sure How Long to Keep Medical Records or Film?
Review our State-by-State Medical Record Retention Guidelines to stay compliant and protect your practice.
The retention guidelines provided are for general informational purposes only and are not intended as legal advice. Retention requirements can vary significantly based on the state, type of record, and specific regulatory obligations. We strongly encourage you to perform your own due diligence and consult with qualified legal or compliance professionals to ensure that your retention practices meet all applicable laws and regulations.
Navigating a Shifting X-Ray Film Recycling Industry
As the medical imaging industry moves toward digital, traditional x-ray film recycling is rapidly declining. Fewer processors remain each year, making secure, reliable film destruction harder to come by.
A Secondary Trend: DryView Film Backlog
- DryView film takes longer to process, causing serious delays.
- An estimated 15 million pounds of film could flood the market, creating a capacity crisis.
- Those with secure processing partners are positioned to avoid these bottlenecks.
How to Stay Protected
- Verify your vendor. Work only with companies that offer references and document all due diligence – x-ray film contains Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Trust our experience. AMS has been in business for nearly 50 years and partners with the world’s most financially secure and trusted silver refinery, Rochester Silver Works (RSW) – formerly known as Eastman Kodak’s Silver Department.
- Tour the facility. AMS encourages plant tours so you can see our secure, NAID AAA Certified processes firsthand.
- Rely on scale and stability. As RSW’s top recycler of exposed x-ray film, AMS offers clients industry-leading silver rebates and financial confidence backed by the financial stability of our trusted, long-standing partner.
